Heavyweight powerhouses Lavar Johnson and Pat Barry weren’t put on the opening bout on FOX to put on a three-round classic, they were put here to have a flash knockout and that’s what we got.
Johnson entered the elite 265-pound division with his back against the wall following back-to-back defeats in UFC’s sister-organization Strikeforce but an opening round knockout of Joey Beltran caught everyones attention.
Barry sat in a similar situation to Johnson, two defeats in a row had him in unfamiliar territory before snapping his losing skid with a big knockout over Christian Morecraft.
Their heavyweight tilt began with both power-punchers throwing heavy-hands of leather with Johnson getting the upper hand landing several hard hits forcing Barry to take it to the mat to display his improving mat work.
Barry looked for an Americana on the floor but was unable to secure the submission hold before we returned to the feet, Johnson eventually cornered him against the cage and unloaded with everything he had before the kickboxer was folded up like an accordion.
