Fight Music: Strikeforce’s Josh Thomson

It’s another singing edition of Fight Music. Today we chatted with Strikeforce’s Josh Thomson (19-4-1). Thomson faces lightweight champ, Gilbert Melendez this Saturday, May 19th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California for Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier. Keep it locked on MMASucka.com for live results.

It’s funny, because when I’m driving to and from the gym I listen to country. Then when I get to the gym we listen to rock or hip hop. When we’re hitting mits at night and Cain is in the room we listen to Mariachi or Mexican music. I guess you could say I listen to a lot of everything. I’ve been really listening to LL Cool J’s song “It’s Time for War”. The song basically talks about how he’s getting older and how all the younger rappers are kind of writing him off and stuff. It’s kind of a little bit of motivation for me, because every interview I do these days is “how much longer do you plan on fighting?” So it motivates me to stay focused on what I’m doing and just realize that you’re not going to get old overnight. Herschel Walker told me once after I had a couple of bad performances in the gym and Javier [Mendez] and Bob Cook were like “You are getting older” and Herschel goes, “That’s a bunch of bullshit! You never just get old overnight, it’s a gradual thing.” That kind of lit a fire under my ass, it made me realize there is some truth to that. The more you let people tell you that you’re getting older, the more chance you have of not living up to your full potential.
