MMASucka’s UFC Fight Night 156 Staff Picks

MMASucka staff picks are in for UFC Fight Night 156 taking place later this evening, August 10th, from the Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay. The main card will begin live and exclusively on ESPN+ beginning at 8:00pm ET (9:00pm UYT, 5:00pm PT).

THE FIGHTS

In the main event, Valentina Shevchenko will look to defend her UFC flyweight championship in a rematch against challenger Liz Carmouche. This fight will be a rematch nearly nine years from their first meeting in 2010, Carmouche coming out victorious following a doctor stoppage. Aside from the loss and two tight defeats to Amanda Nunes, Shevchenko is still arguably regarded the greatest female mixed martial arts fighter of all-time. Her past two years of competition have shown us what she is capable of, including an incredible head-kick “Knockout of the Year” contender over Jessica Eye in June. She looks to avenge her first loss, Carmouche posing as a tough threat with a long career competing under the UFC and Strikeforce banners. Carmouche sits at a surprising 4-1 dating back to April of 2015, suffering only a single loss in 2017 to Alexis Davis in her flyweight debut.

A thrilling co-main event is in store between Brazilian Vicente Luque and American Mike Perry. Luque sits at 9-1 in his last 10 UFC fights including two victories already in 2019 while Perry looks to add a potential 12th knockout victory to his resume.

Many other solid fights make up the main card including a light heavyweight scrap behind Volkan Oezdemir and Ilir Latifi and the UFC debut of former IBJJF and ADCC world champion Rodolfo Vieira. Check out the remaining main card fights for UFC Fight Night 156 below.

STAFF PICKS

Throughout the year, staff picks will be composed of four different MMA promotions: UFCBellatorONE, and RIZIN. Main cards will make up both UFC and Bellator picks, while the biggest fights to make up ONE and RIZIN events will be used. The WINNER of staff picks will have a choice between receiving a championship belt from ProAmBelts or a championship chain from Championship Chains. The 2018 winner was awarded to Michael DeSantis, compiling a record of 202-101.
