MMASucka’s UFC 244 Staff Picks

Only one card this weekend for our MMASucka staff picks. Later today, November 2nd, UFC 244 will go down from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. The five-fight main card will begin at 10:00pm ET (7:00pm PT) live on pay-per-view.

The Fights

A highly anticipated main event is in store between welterweights Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz for the “BMF” title (short for “Baddest Motherf—er”). The winner of the fight will receive a custom-made belt costing a whopping total of $50,000 to create. Dwayne Johnson will take Dana White’s shoes to wrap the belt around the winner later tonight. Masvidal’s 2019 calendar year has been one to remember, sparking the biggest hype behind his already illustrious career. A vicious combination in round two finished off England’s Darren Till by knockout last March. Most recently in July, Masvidal captured the fastest knockout in UFC history with a five-second flying knee over Ben Askren. His opponent, Diaz, returned to the octagon in August after a near three-year hiatus following his two incredible fights with Conor McGregor. His August bout came against long-time rival Anthony Pettis with Diaz taking the back-and-forth fight by unanimous decision.

In the co-main event, recent interim title challenger Kelvin Gastelum will take on divisional newcomer Darren Till. Gastelum comes in off a “Fight of the Year” contending loss to now divisional king Israel Adesanya. Till looks to get back to his winning ways after dropping back-to-back second round finishing defeats at 170 pounds, one of those against Tyron Woodley for the belt in 2018.

Staff Picks

Throughout the year, staff picks will be composed of four different MMA promotions: UFCBellatorONE, and RIZIN. Main cards will make up both UFC and Bellator picks, while the biggest fights to make up ONE and RIZIN events will be used. The WINNER of staff picks will have a choice between receiving a championship belt from ProAmBelts or a championship chain from Championship Chains. The 2018 winner was awarded to Michael DeSantis, compiling a record of 202-101.
