ONE: No Surrender III Recap

ONE Championship was back at it on Friday, August 21 with ONE: No Surrender III from Bangkok.

The ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai Tournament had its second semifinal and the result sent shockwaves through the Muay Thai world after a stunning upset.

#3-ranked contender Kulabdam Sor. Jor. Piek Uthai upended #1-ranked Sangmanee Klong SuanPluResort with a clean first-round knockout. Nicknamed “Left Meteorite,” Kulabdam lived up to the moniker with the thunderous left.

In the co-main event, Mongkolpetch Petchyindee Academy moved past Sok Thy in a flyweight Muay Thai bout by unanimous decision. The victory moves him a step closer to contending for the gold against Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

Fabio Pinca, a multiple-time Muay Thai world champion, had his mixed martial arts debut spoiled by Shannon Wiratchai. It wasn’t an easy bout for the Thai veteran, but he edged Pinca out on two of the three judge’s scorecards to get back in the win column.

In the evening’s most dominant performance, Wondergirl Fairtex walked through Brooke Farrell for a quick 1:21 victory by knockout. She showed little regard for the striking prowess of her opponent and announced herself as a potential champion in the growing strawweight Muay Thai division.

Japan’s Little Tiger could not get past Marie Ruumet of Estonia in the event’s second bout. The well-contested three-round affair moved Ruumet up the ranks and a step closer to Stamp Fairtex.

Debuting athletes Ben Royle and Quitin Thomas got the action rolling in Bangkok, but it was Royle who would shine a little brighter. He hurt Thomas’ legs with kicks early, but closed the show with his fists deep in the third round to kickstart his ONE career with a clean victory.
