Ottman Azaitar Cut from UFC for COVID Protocol Violation

Undefeated lightweight Ottman Azaitar has just been released from the UFC immediately following a violation of anti-COVID protocols. MMAJunkie reporter Farah Hannoun dropped the story earlier today. Azaitar and his team reportedly removed their safety wristbands and supplied them to currently unknown parties, allowing the latter to enter the safe zone. The incident, however, was caught on camera and as a result Azaitar has been released from the company.

This marks the first time the UFC has cut a fighter from the organization specifically because of a violation of its anti-COVID protocols.

Ottman Azaitar: Previous Career Breakdown

Ottman Azaitar, who hails from Germany and was the son of Morrocan immigrant parents, is undefeated throughout his career, which included a stint in BRAVE CF. Of his 13 victories, ten were by knockout. He had fought twice for the UFC, being awarded Fight of the Night bonuses twice for two first-round knockouts. The knockouts in question were over Teemu Packalen and Khama Worthy, both earning Performance of the Night bonuses. However, Azaitar’s status as an acclaimed prospect did not protect him from the consequences of the violation.

Azaitar was on the UFC 257 card, due to fight Matt Frevola. Frevola will not face Arman Tsarukyan, whose scheduled fight with Nasrat Haqparast was scratched due to a Haqparast illness. Tsarukyan ended up missing weight, and will fine twenty percent of his purse to Frevola.
