In North America, only a handful of former professional wrestling stars have tested the waters in mixed martial arts but it seems there will be another to the list.
Dave Bautista had a memorable run with WWE beginning in their developmental territory in the early shades of this millennium before becoming a big-time player in the organization winning six world titles in his run.
The herculean heavyweight departed from WWE in 2010 and had teased moving into the MMA world for quite some time, at one point was in talks with Scott Coker to join Strikeforce but Zuffa, LLC’s purchase of their top rival put the kibosh on those plans.
TMZ were first on the scene to break the news of the former WWE king’s foray into caged combat.
The 43-year-old powerhouse signed with the CES MMA league — and is all set up to fight on October 6 at the Duncan Doughnuts Theater in Providence, Rhode Island.
Moments later the news came from the horses mouth when he updated his twitter account, announcing the fight.
“I’m making my MMA debut oct 6th live on PPV check it! BOOOOM there’s the announcement. Sorryhaters!”
He is scheduled to face 2-1 New York resident Rashid Evans, not to be mistaken with ex-UFC light-heavyweight titlist Rashad Evans.
