UFC Vegas 24 Results

Originally booked to meet for the middleweight title in 2019, former champion Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum meet on Saturday night as MMASucka brings you UFC Vegas 24 Results. Back in 2019, Whittaker was forced out of his title defense against Gastelum due to abdominal issues and needing emergency surgery. With Whittaker out of the picture for some time, an interim title fight was made between Gastelum and Israel Adesanya. Gastelum lost his title shot that night as Adesanya defeated him by unanimous decision.

When Whittaker came back, he was matched up with Adesanya in October of that year. Adesanya went on to defeat Whittaker, finishing him by second round knockout. Following the loss, Whittaker returned to the octagon the following July as he picked up a unanimous decision win over Darren Till. In his most recent outing, he picked up another unanimous decision win over Jared Cannonier. With a win over Gastelum, Whittaker could solidify a rematch with Adesanya.

Gastelum’s loss to Adesanya kicked off a three fight losing streak that lasted until the following year. Seven months after his loss to Adesanya, Gastelum lost a split decision to Darren Till at UFC 244. Following that loss, Gastelum was handed a five month suspension for testing positive for marijuana. Following the short suspension, Gastelum faced Jack Hermansson, losing his third straight fight as Hermansson submitted him in just over a minute. In his last outing, Gastelum snapped the losing streak with a unanimous decision win over Ian Heinisch. A big win over Whittaker would catapult Gastelum back into the top five of the division.

In the co-main event, Jeremy Stephens makes the move up to lightweight as he faces off against Drakkar Klose. Stephens has not won a fight since 2018 when he capped off a three fight win streak with a knockout win over Josh Emmett. After that, he suffered a TKO loss to Jose Aldo, a decision loss to Zabit Magomedsharipov and then a no contest against Yair Rodriguez. In a rematch with Rodriguez, he would lose by unanimous decision. His last fight resulted in a knockout loss to Calvin Kattar.

As for Klose, he holds a 3-1 record in his last four outings. He had put together three straight decision wins over Lando VannataBobby Green and Christos Giagos. In his last fight, he suffered a knockout loss to Beneil Dariush to snap his win streak.

*UPDATE* It was announced as UFC Vegas 24 began that Jeremy Stephens vs. Drakkar Klose had been cancelled due to an injury suffered by Klose. Ten fights remain on the card.
