Tony Ferguson vs. Beneil Dariush – UFC 262 Preview

Tony Ferguson will be taking on Beneil Dariush in the co-main event of UFC 262. UFC 262 will take place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. This will mark the UFC’s third event since the pandemic started to invite fans back into the stands. The card will be headlined by a lightweight title fight. Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira will be fighting for the vacant lightweight title.

Tony Ferguson (25-5)

Tony Ferguson is coming off a two-fight losing streak losing back-to-back fights against Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira. Prior to those two fights, Tony Ferguson went 15-1 in the UFC with his only loss being a decision against Michael Johnson. He has career wins over Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis, Kevin Lee, Rafael dos Anjos, and Edson Barboza. Tony Ferguson has finished 20 of his 25 wins with 12 of them being knockouts and eight of them being submissions.

Ferguson is great off his back and is a black belt in 10th Planet Jiujitsu under Eddie Bravo. He also has a national title in wrestling and made the all-American team in 2006 and 2007. Tony Ferguson also has a very unique style of striking. He is known to use the Gramby roll to get himself out of trouble when he is hurt. He is also known to throw a lot of elbows and knees to make the fight messy.

Beneil Dariush (20-4-1)

Beneil Dariush is coming into this fight on a six-fight win streak. In that streak, he holds wins over Thiago Moises, Drew Dober, Frank Camacho, Drakkar Klose, Scott Holtzman, and Carlos Diego Ferreira. He has finished his opponent in 13 of his 20 wins and has been finished in every single one of his losses. In three of those four losses, Dariush was knocked out by Ramsey Nijem, Edson Barboza, and Alexander Hernandez. 

Dariush is also a black belt in jiujitsu but his black belt is under Romulo Barral. He trains with Rafael Cordeiro and has a black belt in Judo under him. Dariush has silver medals in the world jiujitsu championships in 2009,2010, and 2012. While also winning gold medals in the world no-gi jiujitsu championships in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Beneil Dariush has evolved his striking tremendously in his last few fights. Knocking out his opponents in two of his last three fights.
