Chavez Jr. vs. Silva: Tribute to the Kings Preview

Chavez Jr. vs. Silva takes place this Saturday, June 19, 2021. Hailed as the “Tribute to the Kings” boxing event, it all goes down from the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico as former UFC Middleweight champ Anderson Silva (34-11, 22KOs, 4 submissions MMA) meets boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (52-5-1-, 34 KOs boxing) in a 10-round cruiserweight bout.

Chavez Jr. vs. Silva: Tale of the Tape

Widely considered the GOAT of UFC, Silva had a run of 16 straight wins with 14 stoppages in his early professional career. “The Spider” was known for his pinpoint accuracy, knockout power, and spider-like reflexes that prevented most fighters from countering the venomous attack.

In August 2013, Silva’s long reign as the Middleweight champ came to an end as fast as his showboating skills as Chris Wideman unexpectedly KO’ed Silva in Round 2 of the bout.

UFC released Silva after the fighter posted a 1-7 record with one no contest in his final nine bouts.

This bout will be the third professional boxing match for Silva. He suffered a first-round TKO loss to Osmar Luiz Teixeira in 1998 and won after a second-round TKO over Julio Cesar De Jesus in 2005.

That’s the last time we saw Silva box, giving him a huge disadvantage over Chavez Jr. who, while no longer the world-class boxer he once was, fought in November 2020,  defeating Jeyson Minda

Silva has a reach advantage over Chavez Jr. (77 inches compared to 73 for Chavez) along with a unique fighting style that forces Julio to close the distance and throw powerful punches. Chavez Jr. is known for fighting under pressure.

Chavez Jr. says he is ready to face off with Silva. He explained to MMAJunkie.com, ‘I want to prove that I’m the boxer, that I’m the best in the ring that night, of course. I’m training hard to fight the best, so I’m ready.’
