Andre Galvao Signs with ONE Championship

Andre Galvao is back and on a mission to prove he can achieve greatness in mixed martial arts. The Brazilian grappling star was announced as ONE Championship’s latest marquee signing by ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

BJJ Legend Andre Galvao Signs with ONE Championship

Galvao was no slouch in mixed martial arts with five career victories in a short two-year span. Galvao picked up three submission wins and a TKO victory with only one decision.

He is back after an 11-year hiatus because he wants to show off how much he has developed as a complete martial artist.

“Back in the day I had no wrestling and no ADCC World Titles. My no-gi game is different now,” said Galvao in an Instagram post detailing his signing.

“I want to show the world I can do it!”

“I want to get back and show the world I can do it well.”

He will get to show the world what he has inside the Circle in 2022. The exciting submission artist will be a must-watch in the new year to see how he has tweaked his game during his time away from the sport.

But mixed martial arts will just be part of the excitement during his ONE tenure. Per Sityodtong, Galvao will also be able to compete in submission grappling matches.

Galvao’s list of accomplishments on the canvas is astonishing. He has won the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships 10 times in total while also picking up a gold at the ADCC World Championships in the 88kg and absolute divisions.

ONE has made prior signings such as Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida and Gordon Ryan, who will also compete in both sports. The prospect of Ryan vs. Galvao will undoubtedly draw attention from grappling fans.

Galvao has won four super fights at the ADCC World Championships to add to his collection of gold from the event, where he will return in 2022 for a can’t-miss bout against the American.

Galvao and Ryan have a budding rivalry that will continue in 2022 at the ADCC World Championships, but no matter who wins on that night, fans should expect their rivalry to continue inside the Circle at ONE as well.

The Brazilian’s signing adds extra flavor to the smorgasbord that ONE provides its fans. From kickboxing to Muay Thai to mixed martial arts to submission grappling, fans get a taste of the full diverse slate of martial arts on the global stage.

Galvao is the latest to bring his elite skill set to ONE.

No debut has been set for Galvao. Stay tuned to MMA Sucka for details about Galvao’s re-entry into the world of mixed martial arts.
