Jake Paul versus Tyron Woodley II Headlines a Big Boxing Weekend

A weekend that was supposed to be filled with Fury family antics is still pretty full but with a solid lineup of fights instead. The headlining act on a busy December 18th weekend of boxing is of course the action taking place in Tampa Bay, Florida between Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley. While they get a preview in here it is important to not miss out on the other action in store for it all, after all, Jake Paul wants to bring eyes to the sport and this weekend is a perfect time to do so.

Jake Paul versus Tyron Woodley II Headlines a Big Boxing Weekend

As mentioned it was supposed to be Tommy Fury this weekend against Jake Paul but a lung infection and broken rib derailed that, in steps Tyron Woodley to run it back and potentially collect the bag.

Paul heard that fans weren’t excited with the last one so he worked into Woodley’s contract that there is a $500k knockout bonus, whether that produces action is yet to be determined. Some speculate it is used to open up Woodley and make him act wild and for others, it creates the worry that Paul will go into a shell and avoid the knockout to prove a point.

Sadly the build-up to this hasn’t been the same as the others but there are some things worth looking for in this fight. Will we see a better gas tank from Paul? Will Woodley throw more than a handful of jabs? Both men have so much to improve upon and it will set up the winner for a big 2022 and the loser will be sent scrambling to pick up the pieces.

Artur Beterbiev Continues His Knockout Streak

Before Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley settle things once and for all, Friday had knockout artist and potential future opponent of Canelo Alvarez, Artur Beterbiev.

Beterbiev now has a record of 17-0 with all 17 wins coming by way of knockout, he is currently the WBC and IBF light heavyweight titleholder and, as mentioned, he is in the running for a Canelo Alvarez fight. He had a tough opponent in front of him in Marcus Browne who is now 24-2 himself but the clear advantage was with Beterbiev due to his punching power and impressive amateur background before turning pro. His amateur career won him two European gold medals and a gold medal at the world championships as well. He faced both Oleksandr Usyk and Sergey Kovalev with a win over the latter, regardless of him getting a Canelo Alvarez, he is must watch to kick off a busy weekend.

Beterbiev suffered a nasty cut, however, gained a ninth-round knockout to retain his titles. He will certainly be keeping his eye on Canelo’s upcoming cruiserweight debut.

Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora Run It Back Again

This past May, New Zealand’s Joseph Parker came back from a first-round knockdown against Derek Chisora to score a split decision win that saw the judges keep the scoring within a round of each man. Parker, a training partner of Tyson Fury’s, has seen a career resurgence since his loss to Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, he has powerful hands and a proven heart after Chisora tested it in their last fight.

For Chisora, he will be looking to get revenge with the fight taking place in Manchester again but this time will be looking for a new result. Chisora is coming off two losses with one being to Parker obviously but the other came at the hands of one Oleksandr Usyk. Chisora is still pursuing a true heavyweight title to add to his impressive resume but at age 37 the clock is ticking on that chance to become anything more than a British and Commonwealth champion.

These next two days are super fun if you are a boxing fan and if you aren’t it is the perfect time to start. Don’t miss out on this stacked weekend to end a bounce-back 2021.
