Kai Kamaka III will have a homecoming at Bellator 279, when he takes on Justin Gonzales in a featherweight clash.
Kai Kamaka to Welcome Justin Gonzales in Featherweight Matchup at Bellator 279
The event serves as the second part of Bellator’s return to the Aloha state. The event is set to take place on Saturday, April 23 at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii, with the main card being broadcasted on Showtime. The matchup was first reported by KHON and later confirmed by MMA Junkie, which was informed by people with the knowledge of the booking but wished to remain anonymous. An official announcement is yet to be made.
Kai Kamaka, who has a 9 – 4 -1 professional MMA record returned to Bellator after a four-fight tenure in the UFC. There he won once, defeating Tony Kelley, but later lost to Jonathan Pearce and TJ Brown. His last outing inside the octagon against Danny Chavez ended as a draw. At Bellator 272 he defeated John de Jesus via unanimous decision. In his earlier Bellator tenure, he defeated Shojin Miki and Spencer Higa.
Justin Gonzales is a former LFA featherweight champion, who vacated the trophy by signing with the Scott Coker promotion. He has a 12 – 1 professional record, with his single loss coming in his promotional debut to Aaron Pico via unanimous decision at Bellator 271 this past November.
