Movsar Evloev Takes Aim At Former UFC Champ For Next Fight

One featherweight fighter has peaked Movsar Evloev’s interest.

The Road To Gold

The #5-ranked UFC contender isn’t far away from fighting for the world title. Russia’s Evloev stands at a perfect 18-0 record with six of those wins coming inside the Octagon. Still though, the championship pay-off hasn’t come as all of Evloev’s UFC wins have been by decision instead of a definitive finish.

Evloev hasn’t fought since defeating top contender Arnold Allen on the scorecards at UFC 297. While the case could have been made for a title shot there, the undefeated Russian believes he’s found the right opponent to make him undeniable in that conversation: Aljamain Sterling.

The former UFC Bantamweight Champion, made quite the first impression at 145lbs with a dominant win over Calvin Kattar last weekend. Sterling wrestled his way to victory in a somewhat lackluster, yet impressive showing at UFC 300.

What Started It All

When asked about his next fight at featherweight, Sterling says he’d like to take on former title challenger Brian Ortega, but this is what “Funkmaster” had to say about a potential scrap with Evloev:

“It’s not that that fight with Movsar wouldn’t be fun,” Sterling said on ‘The MMA Hour’. “I think two grapplers, the way we grapple it could be some very fun scrambles. Especially with his Arnold Allen fight. There was some fun scrambles in there because Arnold tried to get out and tried to do something. It creates opportunities, right? I think when you have a style like mine and his, it could make for a fun fight the same way that Diego Lopes made for a fun fight.”

Evloev ‘Ready’ For The “Funkmaster”

Evloev was already intrigued about Sterling’s featherweight debut, but now he’s got his full attention.

“Brave for you to talk about me,” Evloev wrote of Sterling on ‘X’. “I like it! Call UFC and fight me. I’m ready.”

With wins over Dan Ige, Diego Lopes and Arnold Allen, it’s safe to say a former UFC titleholder like Aljamain Sterling would be Movsar Evloev’s biggest and most accomplished name on his resume yet.
