FX executive: TUF is moving to another night

If you tuned in to today’s media call regarding the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter you probably came to find a fresh batch of reasons why Jon Jones is fake and you hate him or to hear Chael Sonnen’s quirky pro wrestling-esque one liners. Chances are you got both.

The other hidden gem thrown into the mix was the addition of Chuck Saftler, an executive for the FX station who had a few revelations and a lot to say about Spike TV.

As has been thrown about for a while now he confirmed that the UFC’s hit reality television series would be leaving Friday nights. Over the past two seasons on Fridays they have reached record low numbers and the inconvenient night is believed to be a large reason for that.

Safter then took a page out of the Chael Sonnen book of pro wrestling remarks stating that the UFC’s former home better “watch their ass”.

He was reluctant to set an official night for the series, stating that it would be known within the next 30-45 days but it seems that Bellator Fighting Championship’s could be a large reason for this.

“Clearly Spike has been dogging us for most of this year with the launch of the two seasons of The Ultimate Fighter by creating viewer confusion and scheduling old episodes and puttiing them off as new content. They’re going to try to have their own reality show that’s similar to The Ultiamte Fighter. We watched how they behaved and we’re well aware of their behavior and how they’ve acted competitively. We’ll be watching what they schedule, how they schedule and where they schedule”

If you can read between the lines you can probably figure out what their gameplan is. Bellator are set to launch their own reality television series when they launch on Spike TV and if TUF went head-to-head that would be a major blow to the number-two ranked organization, especially when the UFC has the star power of Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.
