Women’s MMA Icon Sets Return Bout For This May

After more than a year, former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate will return to the Octagon.

Miesha Tate To Fight Previous Title Challenger in Iowa

Expected to make her comeback this May at a Fight Night event in Des Moines, IA Miesha Tate (20-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) clashes with previous UFC title challenger Yana Santos (15-8 MMA, 5-5 UFC). Taking to Instagram on Monday, Tate broke the news that she was going to be stepping into the cage again with an enthusiastic post, eager to prove potential doubters wrong.

“It’s Official: May 3rd vs @yanamma”, Miesha Tate posted.

“I’ve still got what it takes and if you doubt me, please stick around.

Mark your calendars.”

Miesha Tate Looks To Continue Legendary Career

Last seen at UFC on ESPN: Dariush vs. Tsarukyan back in December of 2023, Miesha Tate fought Julia Avila, submitting the California native a minute into the third round with a rear naked choke. The win also netted “Cupcake” her third Performance of the Night bonus.

Longtime fans will remember Tate for her high-profile bouts with Ronda Rousey, including coaching a season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2013 against her nemesis. She also scored an impressive late fifth round submission victory over women’s MMA legend Holly Holm to earn the 135-lb strap.

Miesha Santos Had To Overcome Adversity in Last Bout

In her past UFC appearance, Santos faced off with Chelsea Chandler at UFC Vegas 95. Even before the contest began, Chandler drummed up a large amount of controversy by coming in at 141 lbs, a whole four pounds above the women’s bantamweight limit (one pound allowance included). Despite this catastrophic weight miss, Santos still accepted the fight anyway. Although much undersized against the overweight Chandler, “Foxy” recorded an impeccable performance, out striking the American en route to a unanimous decision triumph.
