Carlos Condit has waited nine months to get his hands on Georges St-Pierre and unify the UFC Welterweight Championship.
At UFC 143 in February, Condit defeated Nick Diaz via unanimous decision to win the Interim UFC Welterweight Championship. He knew St-Pierre was out of action due to injury and decided he would not fight until he returned.
At WEC 32, Condit fought in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico against Carlo Prater. He knew all the pressure was on him in front of his hometown fans, but was still able to pick up the first round submission victory.
At UFC 154, St-Pierre will be in front of his hometown of Montreal, QC, and on today’s UFC 154 media conference call, Condit said he believes being at home will put some added pressure on the champ.
“When I fought in my hometown, I felt a lot more pressure. Also, he’s coming back off an injury. This is a must-win fight for him. I feel like all the pressure is on him. He’s the man. He’s got the status. I’ve got nothing to lose. I can go in there and perform to the best of my ability and put on a good show.”
This will mark St-Pierre’s third title defence in front of his home-town fans; as he fought and defeated Matt Serra at UFC 83 to regain his Welterweight Championship and Josh Koscheck at UFC 124.
“Rush” said that he will be ready for Condit and will leave everything inside the cage.
“I’m always afraid when I’m going to fight, regardless of who I’m fighting. I’m going to be fired up and I’ll fight the best that I can. I will leave everything out there. That’s something I can promise to everybody.”
With his hometown crowd in front of him, UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva cageside and Carlos Condit across from him, it seem like there sure will be some pressure on St-Pierre.
