Corey Anderson Eyes Nemkov Trilogy With Win at PFL Africa

The historic PFL Africa card goes down this weekend and the former Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion, Corey Anderson moves up to heavyweight to take on the heavyweight champion, Denis Goltsov.

Despite being a career light heavyweight and having not competed at heavyweight since 2013, Anderson will step up in weight to take on a tough test. Talking to the media, Overtime stated that he never expected to go back up in weight and that the decision to move up in weight took him just ‘10 seconds‘ to accept. He also stated that he walks around at 240lbs, so isn’t worried about the weight come Saturday night.

Corey Anderson vs Nemkov or Ngannou?

Corey Anderson was asked by MMASucka if he were to win at the weekend, would he play the bad guy in Africa and call out Francis Ngannou? The former UFC star didn’t appear interested in the Ngannou fight, however, stating that he wasn’t even sure that Ngannou was still a member of the PFL and that he hadn’t seen him around the fight week festivities.

He did, however, pose a potential match-up that he would be interested in if he were to get his hand raised in South Africa. He made it very clear that he wants to see Corey Anderson vs Vadim Nemkov 3.

The two men faced off originally in early 2022, with the fight being deemed a no-contest due to an accidental clash of heads. The two men rematched in November 2022 and this time it was Nemkov who got the unanimous decision victory (48–47, 49–4 & 49–46) to retain the belt. The Russian would go on to relinquish the belt and it would be Anderson who picked up the vacant strap and be the last man to hold the Bellator light heavyweight belt.
