“She’s not normal” – Norma Dumont Calls Out Former Champion

Norma Dumont is enjoying a rich vein of form, which she continued on Saturday night. The Brazilian clashed with fellow countrywoman, Ketlen Vieira, this time winning via split decision.

This win extended her winning run to six straight, all of which have gone the distance, putting her in a very favourable position in a competitive bantamweight division. She’s leapfrogged Vieira and is now ranked #3 in the division.

Naturally, The Immortal will want to continue her rise up the division by fighting someone higher ranked than her. That leaves her with only two options as she’s unlikely to get a title shot. Firstly, a fight with #2 Raquel Pennington. This fight makes a lot of sense.

Pennington has been out of action for over a year, having lost the belt to Julianna Pena in October last year. The two were scheduled to fight in September of this year, however, the American withdrew due to injury.

If not Pennington, Norma Dumont has her eyes set on one of the more outspoken women in the division, former champion, Julianna Pena.

Norma Dumont Discusses Julianna Pena and Potential Match-Up

Speaking to Ariel Helwani earlier today, she was asked about Pena. He stated that the champion of the division, Kayla Harrison, is set to meet Amanda Nunes. He went on to ask if Dumont thinks that she’s next for the winner, to which she agreed and put, “I don’t think anyone can really complain about that”.

Helwani then asked what Dumont’s response would be to Julianna Pena, who believes that she should be next for the winner of Harrison vs Nunes. Comically, Dumont replied, “I think she’s going to be on medicine, she’s not normal”. When asked if she’d be open to a #1 contenders fight with Pena, the Brazilian was clearly keen, “Yes, tomorrow” was her response. She’s clearly confident, stating, “I don’t think that’s a bad fight for me. I would accept it before a title fight, no problem“.

Could we see Dumont vs Pena next?
