A lightweight battle between Nate Diaz and Josh Thomson will go down at UFC on FOX 7.
UFC officials brought word of the latest fight for UFC on FOX 7 on Tuesday.
Diaz (16-8) was the number one contender in the lightweight division and was given a title shot at UFC on FOX 5 against Benson Henderson. However, even though the 209 bad boy came into the fight looking outstanding, Henderson battered him from bell to bell in a five round battle.
Thomson (19-5) is coming off a loss to Strikeforce Lightweight Champion and current UFC lightweight contender Gilbert Melendez last May. He lost that fight by split decision in what many called controversial.
This will be Thomson’s second stint with the UFC, he previously went 2-1 with victories over Gerald Strebendt at UFC 44 and Hermes Franca at UFC 46.
UFC on FOX 7 is expected to go down April 20 at San Jose’s HP Pavilion. The main event will feature Benson Henderson vs. Gilbert Melendez for the UFC lightweight championship. Also on the card will be a heavyweight showdown between Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion Daniel Cormier and Frank Mir.
