Lyoto Machida vs. Phil Davis rumoured to be added to UFC 163

Machida

MMAOpinion is reporting that “Mr. Wonderful” has been penciled in to try and slay “the Dragon” in a light heavyweight fight.

The UFC has yet to confirm this bout, but rumours say that there is a verbal agreement in place.

“Mr. Wonderful” Phil Davis (11-1, 1 N/C) is one of the more underrated light heavyweights in the UFC.  Many pundits had him pegged to be a threat to Jon Jones and his title reign until a loss to Rashad Evans at UFC on Fox 2 derailed the hype train. Since then, Davis has put together solid wins over Wagner Prado and Vinny Magalhaes, and is now due to step up in competition once again. Will he make it three in a row, or will he be the next warrior to fall while chasing “the Dragon”?

Lyoto “the Dragon” Machida (19-3) is renowned for having some of the best movement in the UFC, being able to step in for quick attacks and evade the majority of counters thrown his way and drawing his opponent into a chase that often ends with the Brazilian fighter getting his hand raised. With his Karate-based striking, Machida is often able to confound his opponents and catch them running into strikes. On a two fight winning streak of his own, with wins over Ryan Bader and Dan Henderson, “the Dragon” will likely receive a title shot and rematch with Jon Jones should he be able to get past Phil Davis at UFC 163. Will he be able to punch his ticket back to title contention in front of his home country?

UFC 163 is scheduled to take place at the HSBC Arena  in Rio de Janiero, Brazil on Saturday, August 3rd. The main event is currently scheduled to be a featherweight title fight between tilt between Jose “Scarface” Aldo and Anthony “Showtime” Pettis.
