Renan Barao vs. Eddie Wineland rescheduled for UFC 165

After the initial attempt at having this bout at UFC 161 was scuttled due to injury, the interim bantamweight champion will be taking on his originally scheduled challenger a little further east of Winnipeg. The bout has been reset for UFC 165 in Toronto, ON.

Renan Barao vs. Eddie Wineland rescheduled for UFC 165

Dave Diebert of Postmedia News broke the news via the Toronto Star-Phoenix’s website.

Renan Barao (30-1, 1 N/C) is one of Nova Uniao’s two UFC champions, with Jose Aldo being the other. The interim bantamweight champ is a fierce, well-rounded competitor, with powerful kicks and a strong anti-wrestling game. With no official losses in 31 fights, he also holds one of the longest undefeated records in MMA today.  Will he be able to bring his considerable skills to bear on the surging Wineland?

Eddie Wineland (20-8-1) is a prime example of how it can only take a couple of good wins to earn yourself a title shot in the developing UFC bantamweight division. With a KO of Scott Jorgenson and a split decision over the ever durable Brad Pickett, Wineland has earned himself a shot at Barao’s interim title. Will he be able to to put the first loss since on the champ’s record since 2005 and earn himself some gold?

UFC 165 is set to explode on Sep. 21st, 2013 in Toronto, ON’s Air Canada Centre. The main event is currently a light heavyweight title bout pitting the champion Jon “Bones” Jones against the first challenger of his generation, Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafson. Stay tuned to MMASucka for more on this and other upcoming events.
