Quinn Mulhern injured, replaced by Al Iaquinta vs. Ryan Couture at UFC 164

The injury bug is hitting UFC 164 early, with the announcement that Quinn Mulhern has fractured his hand and will be forced to pull out of his scheduled bout. Taking his place against the second generation Couture will be Team Serra-Longo’s Al Iaquinta.

MMA Junkie broke the news earlier today.

Quinn Mulhern injured, replaced by Al Iaquinta vs. Ryan Couture at UFC 164

Al Iaquinta (5-2-1) was last seen competing in the finals of the Ultimate Fighter Season 15, where he lost to Michael Chiesa by technical submission. The hard-punching lightweight will be looking to get back in the win column, but will he be able to do so against the grinding assault of “The Lion?”

Ryan “The Lion” Couture (6-2) can lay claim to being the first second-generation competitor in the Octagon. The Xtreme Couture lightweight, the son of former UFC champion Randy Couture, was last seen in a losing effort against Ross Pearson fists at UFC on Fuel TV 9. Will he be able to wear Iaquinta down enough to get his first UFC win?

UFC 164 goes down on August 31st, 2013 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, WI. The card is currently set to be main evented by a rematch for the lightweight title between champion Benson “Smooth” Henderson and challenger Anthony “Showtime” Pettis.
