Asian MMA Throwback – FCC 7: Sagar Kadu vs Aditya Deshpande

Full Contact Championship has been a staple in the Indian Mixed Martial Arts scene since 2009, showcasing nine extravagant events to date. Headed by martial artist and founder Prashant Kumar, FCC has played an integral role in developing local MMA talents. Having forged a partnership with ONE Fighting Championship as part of the “ONE FC Network”, promotional talents like Jeet Toshi (1-1) and Aditya Deshpande (3-0) have gone on to represent the FCC under the ONE FC banner.

Asian MMA Throwback – FCC 7: Sagar Kadu vs Aditya Deshpande

Today’s Asian MMA Throwback feature portrays the aforementioned Aditya Deshpande in his second pro MMA appearance against Sagar Kadu (3-2) in a Bantamweight clash. The match-up took place on October 7, 2012 at FCC 7 in Mumbai, India.

Kadu entered the bout with an unblemished record of 3-0, securing stoppage victories in all of them.

The match-up started with Kadu landing strikes from the distance, against Deshpande who had a good reach advantage. When the fight moved towards one of the ring’s corners, however, they both started trading blows, and it was Kadu who landed a big left that sent Deshpande crashing onto the canvas.

For a moment, Kadu thought he had won as he jogged away with both his hands raised in the air. But Deshpande recovered in a flash and got straight back up to his feet, prompting the referee to signal Kadu that the bout hadn’t ended yet.

As the contest progressed, Deshpande landed a takedown, for which he immediately transitioned into an Armbar. Kadu fought out of it though, forcing his opponent into the turtle position. Kadu then started raining down some heavy lefts and rights, providing no chances whatsoever for Deshpande to recover.

The fight, though, took a turn for the better in Deshpande’s favor as the 22-year-old executed a well-timed sweep in an effort to relieve the pressure. He managed to capitalize on a Rear-Naked Choke, forcing a tap from his Indian counterpart just a few seconds after the four minute mark.

A great fight that certainly had many fans on the edge of their seats.

Aditya Deshpande was last seen at the MIMMA finals. MIMMA, of course, is ONE FC’s feeder amateur league. Deshpande fought Saiful Merican in the one of the event’s featured pro super fights, but dropped a Unanimous Decision defeat; the first set-back of his career.

Kadu, meanwhile, has remained active in pro MMA competition as well. He last starred in FCC 8 in a submission lost against Nadeem Farooqi.
