Cain Velasquez stops Junior Dos Santos in the final round, retains UFC Heavyweight belt

Cain Velasquez has retained his UFC Heavyweight championship belt.

The Mexican dominated proceedings from the first round, getting the better of Dos Santos for almost the entire fight.

It was a well-laid game plan by the champ, who kept the fight up against the cage, where he worked his dirty boxing to perfection along with some sneaky elbows and takedowns.

Dos Santos, in the meantime, had his moments too, but was unable to put Velasquez in any real danger.

Velasquez eventually busted Dos Santos’ face once following a flurry of shots in the third round, which rocked Dos Santos. The Brazilian never quite recovered after that. The stoppage came in the final round when Dos Santos’ failed attempt at a choke allowed Velasquez to recover, forcing the Brazilian into a turtle position. Velasquez then went in for the kill, before referee Herb Dean stepped in and mercilessly stopped the affair.
