Newly signed Tatsuya Kawajiri wants Cub Swanson in octagon debut

Well that didn’t take too long.

Tatsuya Kawajiri (32-7-2), one of several Japanese names signed by the UFC, has a fighter in mind ahead of his much anticipated promotional debut in the near future. He wants to fight Cub Swanson (20-5).

Newly signed Tatsuya Kawajiri wants Cub Swanson in octagon debut

The 35-year-old took to twitter on Saturday, and revealed his intentions and reasons as to why he wanted to face Swanson. It appears that reprisal has been embossed on the Japanese vet’s mind with Swanson defeating Hiroyuki Takaya, a friend of Kawajiri’s, back at WEC 37.

While his motives are reasonably plausible, it remains to be seen if Swanson-Kawajiri will indeed materialize under the watchful eyes of match-maker Joe Silva.

A former DREAM, PRIDE and Shooto vet, Tatsuya “The Cusher” Kawajiri is one of the more proverbial fighters in the Japanese MMA scene who has had a well-established pro MMA career with wins over Yves Edwards, Joachim Hansen, Gesias Cavalcante, Josh Thomson and Michihiro Omigawa among others. The former Shooto Welterweight champ is expected to make his UFC debut in Singapore on January 4, although there’s been no official word with regards to that, yet.

Cub Swanson, meanwhile, is on a tear with a five fight win streak inside the octagon. One of few contenders to Jose Aldo’s 145-lbs throne, the 29-year-old possesses a respectable flair in striking as well as an undervalued ground game. Unbeknownst to most people, Swanson has only gone the distance five times in his 25-fight career thus far.
