After a year long layoff, John ‘The Hitman’ Hathaway (17-1) finally makes his long awaited return to the octagon this weekend, at the UFC’s “TUF: China Finale” event in Macau, China.
TUF: China Finale free fight: John Hathaway vs Tom Egan
The Brit, still only 26, has amassed a whopping 7-1 record under the UFC banner thus far, notching victories over the likes of divisional staples Rick Story and and Diego Sanchez.
Saturday night’s headliner sees the Brighton native lock horns with South Korean sensation Dong Hyun Kim (18-2-1, 1 NC), a prospective Welterweight who has been knocking on the door for a title shot for quite some time.
Hathaway was in fact slated to face Kim back in 2010, but an injury thwarted the South Korean out of the contest back then. Veteran Mike Pyle then stepped up to the plate as a replacement, handing Hathaway what was his first and only pro MMA defeat to date.
And now, four years later, two of the brightest 170-lbs prospects are set for a collision course once again. Kim is coming off three back-to-back victories, winning seven of his last ten outings. His last appearance in the octagon came at UFC Fight Night 29, where the 32-year-old pulled off a stunning and crowd-pleasing knockout over Erick Silva.
London Shootfighters’ Hathaway, meanwhile, is on a three-fight winning skid as well, with nine of his seventeen career victories ending via stoppage.
