Gustafsson landed a takedown off the bat, and immediately worked for a key-lock in half guard. As they both recovered to their feet soon after, Manuwa tried to end the round with some trademark strikes but Gustafsson played it safe by using his range to full effect and keeping away from those hard shots.

Second round commenced and the bout was momentarily halted after Manuwa was on the receiving end of an accidental eye poke. But as the contest resumed, Manuwa landed consecutive overhand rights, that buckled Gustafsson under the pressure. The Swede, however, was unfazed, and as he scurried forward with momentum, he caught Manuwa with a vicious knee, and followed it up with some strikes which soon prompted an intervention from the referee.
