Matt Dwyer steps inside the cage against DaMarques Johnson at BFL 30

Matt Dwyer

Battlefield Fight League embarks on their 30th event on May 23 and the headlining bout is now in place, as Matt Dwyer takes on DaMarques Johnson.

BFL officials announced the match-up on Thursday morning.

Dwyer (6-1) is riding a four-fight winning streak, with his lone defeat coming to Marcus Aurelio via slam KO. The BFL welterweight champ has not gone to the judges score cards in any of his professional bouts and his past four victories have all been finished by either knockout or TKO.

Most recently, Dwyer defeated veteran fighter Shonie Carter via TKO after Carter could not answer the bell in between rounds.

Johnson (16-13) made his big splash on the MMA scene in 2009 when he was a part of the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter. Despite losing to James Wilks in the finals, Johnson still earned a shot with the organization and went on to fight ten times under the UFC banner.

Johnson was cut from the promotion following a three-fight losing skid and missing weight in his final fight in 2012. His losses came to John Maguire, Mike Swick and Gunnar Nelson. Following his departure from the UFC he took one fight under the Cage Warrior Combat banner and lost a split decision to Ian Williams. This will be Johnson’s first time in the cage since November 2013.

BFL 30 goes down on May 23 from the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, British Columbia.
