PXC 44 Results: Kadestam cruises past Calvo, garners 170-lbs strap

A conservative approach and a sure-fire will brought 23-year-old Swedish starlet Zebaztian Kadestam (6-1) his first major championship honor on Friday night.

PXC 44 took place on June 27 at the UOG Fieldhouse in Guam. As with previous installments, the entire event can now be viewed, free-of-charge, on the LIVESTREAM platform.

Kadestam locked horns with Josh Calvo (8-4) for the promotion’s vacant 170-lbs championship title in the main event. The Swede was in control for the entire duration of the contest, outpointing Calvo with his strikes and stuffing all except for one takedown in the 5th frame. Calvo, meanwhile, did have his moments but hardly gave his counterpart a sniff.

After 25 minutes, Kadestam scooped the judges’ scorecards and became the new PXC Welterweight champion. He has now won two straight fights.

In the co-main event, an intriguing Bantamweight contest ensued between Kyle Aguon (7-4) and Troy Bantiag (5-4). Team Lakay’s Bantiag, as expected, started the bout brightly with his flamboyant strikes but as the round progressed, he succumbed to Aguon’s slick grappling game, and was forced to tap to a kimura.

In a clash of two highly touted female Strawweights, Cortney Casey (2-1) used her significant reach to pummel her opponent, Tomo Maesawa (3-4), with strikes, eventually forcing the latter’s corner to throw in a towel to call a halt to the contest.

Elsewhere on the card, former Shooto champ Yusuke Yachi (12-4) continued his rise up the PXC Featherweight division with a lopsided decision victory over Ryan Mulvihill (11-5), while former Bantamweight champ Crisanto Pitpitunge (6-3) had a great to start to life at 125-lbs after topping Josh Duenas (4-5) with a decision triumph.
