Patrick Cote to receive Top 15 opponent with win over Stephen Thompson

UFC veteran Patrick Cote has confirmed that with a win over his next opponent, Stephen Thompson at UFC 178 he will receive a fight against a Top 15 fighter that could launch him into the rankings, once again.

MMASucka.com spoke to him earlier this week and he said with a fourth win in a row over a fighter close to the Top 15 he confirmed with us that he would fight a top 15 fighter next.

“My manager already talked to me about a top 15 opponent, he spoke to the UFC about it and they said that it will be my fourth win in a row and a big win against Stephen Thompson who is very close to cracking the top 15, so yes I will be fighting a ranked fighter next,” Cote said.

Cote is coming off a “The Ultimate Fighter: Nations” coaching position against welterweight Kyle Noke, who he beat at the Finale in April by decision.  He is looking to go four wins straight, which include wins over Bobby Voelker and Alessio Sakara in the past two years.

Cote fights Thompson at UFC 178 on the preliminary card airing live on FOX Sports 1.  The event takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on September 27.  The event is headlined by Flyweight title holder Demetrious Johnson taking on Chris Cariaso in a 5-round championship bout.
