UFC Fight Night 54 gets what should be it’s final fight in the form of two exciting lightweight strikers, Daron Cruickshank and Anthony Njokuani.
UFC officials announced the fight on Thursday.
Cruickshank (15-5) has solidified himself as one of the more exciting fighters in the stacked UFC lightweight division. Coming off of a decision loss to Masvidal, Cruickshank was riding a two-fight win streak with two big knockout wins over Erik Koch and Mike Rio. A veteran of TUF 16, Cruickshank was Team Faber’s 3rd pick of the season following a win over Drew Dober in the elimination round. He wouldn’t make it far though, as he would be eliminated by James Vick in the preliminary round of the tournament. Despite the early departure he would still get a shot in the UFC against Team Cruz’s Chris Tickle in the finale. He would win a decision. Cruickshank would exchange wins and losses up until his two fight win streak prior to the Jorge Masvidal loss.
Njokuani (16-8) has been exchanging wins and losses since 2010, having not won more than one in a row since 2009 in the WEC. During this win streak he scored victories over Horodecki, Corbbrey, and Palaszewski. All of which won him a knockout of the night bonus. Njokuani is 3-4 since joining the UFC in mid-2011 and is coming off of a decision loss to Vinc Pichel in Las Vegas. Before this, Njokuani scored a massive knockout over Roger Bowling.
This bouts placement on the card is unknown at this time.
UFC Fight Night 54 is expected to take place on October 4 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
