Originally expected to face Robert Whiteford, Dennis Siver will now fight Taylor Lapilus in his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 53 in Sweden.
UFC officials confirmed the news early Wednesday.
Siver (21-9-1) is a world class kickboxer who has went 2-1-1 since dropping down from lightweight to featherweight. In his first two outings, he looked more powerful than ever beating Diego Nunes, and dominating Nam Phan en route to a score card of 30-26, 30-25 and 30-24. Following those two fights he would get stopped by Cub Swanson and would rebound with a decision win over Manny Gamburyan, which would later get overturned due to a failed drug test on Siver’s end.
Lapilus (5-1) will have been inactive for almost a year come fight time, having not fought since losing to Magomed Bibulatov via decision last October. He started off his career a perfect 5-0, with four of those wins coming by way of submission. He holds wins over Nicolas Joannes and Souk Khampasath. Both of these wins came by way of submission. The Frenchman is particularly good at chokes and armlocks.
The bout will be a Fight Pass prelim. One of seven, all of which will stream on UFC Fight Pass.
UFC Fight Night 53 takes place on October 4 at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden and will be headlined by welterweights Gunnar Nelson and Rick Story.
