Two top middleweight fighters are set to clash at UFC 184, as Ronaldo Souza takes on Yoel Romero next February.  The bout could very likely be a title eliminator bout, as the middleweight title goes on the line the same night, when Chris Weidman takes on Vitor Belfort.

UFC officials announced the matchup on Wednesday.

‘Jacare’ (21-3) proved he deserves a title shot when he finished Gegard Mousasi in the main event of UFC Fight Night 50 in September.  Prior to that, he was victorious against ex-UFC fighter Francis Carmont earlier this year.  Elbow injuries have kept him relatively inactive this year, but he still managed to fight twice in the Octagon, taking his UFC record to 4-0.

Romero (9-1) is also undefeated inside the Octagon, and most recently picked up the biggest win of his career when he finished Tim Kennedy at UFC 178 in September.  In 2014, he also defeated Derek Brunson and Brad Tavares, launching him close to the top of the division.

The fight is likely to be featured on the main card of the pay-per-view event.

UFC 184 takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on Feb. 28, 2015.  The event is headlined by Weidman vs. Belfort and co-headlined by Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano for the women’s bantamweight strap.
