Happy Thanksgiving: Top five Fights of 2014… so far

Below are our picks for top five fights of 2014… so far.

5. Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida

At UFC 175, Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman proved his worth in a back and forth battle against former champ Lyoto Machida. He took on one of the toughest tests in his career and showed that he deserved to be on top of the 185-pound food chain.

4. Dan Henderson vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua 2

In a rematch of the ages, Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua squared off at UFC Fight Night 39. In front of the Brazilian crowd, Henderson was able to knock out Rua in the third round.

3. Abel Trujillo vs. Jamie Varner

This UFC 169 fight was a war of attrition. Trujillo and Varner swung for the fences from the get-go, with a right-hook from Trujillo midway through the second round that sent Varner to the canvas, eventually ending his evening.

2. TJ Dillashaw vs. Renan Barao

What more can you say, other than wow! Dillashaw shocked the MMA world with his performance against the champion at the time Barao. His footwork and movement were a thing of beauty. After dropping Barao early, he just continued to punish the Brazilian not allowing him to regain any footing.

1. Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler

This fight was about as close as they come, with many believing the wrong man left the Octagon with the belt around his waist. Hendricks did enough in the judges eyes to earn the decision victory and come away with the 170-pound gold. The rematch is set for UFC 181 in December. Check out the full fight below.
