Others who have entered the Octagon with 0-0 records

Following the signing of former WWE Champion Phil “CM Punk” Brooks, there were many haters on the interweb saying that this guy has no experience and he does not belong inside the Octagon.

There are a number of comparisons I’ve heard, from Brock Lesnar coming over to the UFC and of course Michael Jordan playing double-A Baseball with the Chicago Whitesox’s farm team. Neither of these are legitimate counterparts, as Lesnar was a former NCAA wrestler with a ton of experience on the mats and Jordan was playing in a team sport, so while he did not deserve to be there, he could be masked by the other players on the field.

Fighters have entered the UFC with absolutely no professional experience in the past, however those are few and far between. Most of the fighters in this day and age have gone through countless hours of training in the gym and rigorous fights with regional promotions to even get noticed by matchmakers Joe Silva and Sean Shelby.

There are eight fighters that came to mind, when thinking of names that have entered the UFC with 0-0 records (no none of the UFC 1 card.) Check out the slideshow below.

Fighters who entered UFC with 0-0 record

With the signing of CM Punk, this is a list of other fighters who have entered the Octagon with no professional MMA experience.

  • James Toney (0-1)

The former heavyweight boxing champion decided to make a run at MMA after being spotted in attendance at UFC 108. He fought once inside the Octagon and it was a one-sided beatdown by Randy Couture.

  • Matthew Riddle (8-3, 2NC)

Riddle spent the first five years of his MMA career with the UFC. He jumped onto the seen on season seven of The Ultimate Fighter and released twelve fights later after testing positive for marijuana.

  • Matt Mitrione (8-3)

Mitrione was a member of the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter and was eliminated in the quarter finals. Since the show he is 8-3 in his pro career and is currently ranked at #14 on UFC.com.

  • Amir Sadollah (6-5)

Sadollah made his way to The Ultimate Fighter 7 with no pro experience and proved his worth inside the cage. He went on to win the show and currently has a 6-5 record inside the Octagon.
