Boxing Judge C.J. Ross Interested in Scoring MMA

Former Nevada Athletic Commission-appointed judge C.J. Ross has taken a step away from combat sports after submitting controversial scorecards in the recent Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Canelo Alvarez and Timothy Bradley-Manny Pacquiao boxing matches.

Boxing Judge C.J. Ross Interested in Scoring MMA

Now that she has had some time away and relocated from the state of Nevada, Ross told worldboxingnews.net that she is pondering a return to scoring fights. This time though, she wants to potentially take her talents to the sport of mixed martial arts.

“If not boxing, then I would like to have been involved with MMA,” Ross said. “I personally have a background in karate and keeping riding times in college wrestling, but I think it would be a natural thing to pick up in MMA.”

MMA is notorious for questionable judging, with Cathal Pendred’s contentious unanimous decision triumph over Sean Spencer at UFC Fight Night in Boston being the most recent in a long list of examples. In one sense, Ross’ could potentially bring some sort of experience cageside.

However, Ross’ most scrutinized work in boxing last year — a 114-114 scorecard in Mayweather-Alvarez and a 115-113 tally in favor of Bradley over Pacquiao — obviously did not draw positive reviews.
