Biggest Winners and Losers from UFC Fight Night 72

UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Leites (UFC Fight Night 72) was live from The SSE Hydro as the UFC made its debut in Glasgow, Scotland on July 18, 2015.

The main event was a pivotal middleweight match-up as the #9 ranked Michael Bisping squared off with the #10 ranked Thales Leites.

Just like at every event, UFC Fight Night 72 saw lots of fighters pick up a win and further advance their career in the right direction, whereas others were not as successful and will have to reevaluate things for the time being. With that being said, check out our biggest winners and losers from UFC Fight Night 72 below.

Winners

Michael Bisping

At UFC Fight Night 72, Michael Bisping took a real risk by taking on Thales Leites. Leites is not the biggest name in the division, but does have the ability to beat almost anyone. With title hopes still in his future, Bisping knew he had to get past the Brazilian and do so in impressive fashion. The fight was back-and-forth the whole time with both guys having some real success. ‘The Count’ was able to pick up back-to-back wins for the first time in almost four years as he won the fight via split-decision. The 36-year-old proved once again that he is amongst the very best of the division and has been since his middleweight debut back in 2008.

Joanne Calderwood

At UFC Fight Night 72, Joanne Calderwood fought in her home country of Scotland for the first time in over two years. Calderwood was looking to bounce back from her first career loss as she took on promotional newcomer Cortney Casey. After some trouble early, Calderwood was able settle down and get things going her way. In what was an exciting fight, ‘JoJo’ was able to pick up the unanimous decision win and improve her UFC record to 2-1. Calderwood was probably next in line for a title shot had she won her last fight out, but was beaten and this win just makes her one step closer to getting that shot in the future,

Losers

Ross Pearson

At UFC Fight Night 72, Ross Pearson was looking to get back-to-back wins for the first time in over two years as he took on Evan Dunham who was in a similar situation. Pearson was out grappled and shut down for the entirety of the fight. The 30-year-old showed real heart and was able to will himself out of a fully sunk in armbar early, but still could not produce any offense Pearson lost the fight via unanimous decision and has now lost three of his last five fights. ‘The Real Deal’ is almost always exciting and still has a lot left in the UFC, but his next fight out will surely be a must win situation.

Marcus Brimage

At UFC Fight Night 72, Marcus Brimage took on promotional newcomer Jimmie Rivera. Brimage was certainly in a must win situation as he has struggled as of late. Just like his last fight out, Brimage once again lost via TKO and this time at 1:29 of Round 1. ‘The Bama Beast’ has now lost four out of his last five fights and his drop down to bantamweight proved not to be as successful as he had hoped. This very well may have been the last time that Brimage will step into the octagon at least for now.
