Holly Holm was expected to face Sarah Kaufman, ‘excited’ for Ronda Rousey

Undefeated bantamweight Holly Holm will get the next crack at Ronda Rousey’s UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship. It was announced on Friday the long rumored bout against Miesha Tate would not be taking place and Holm were get her shot.

On Friday evening’s episode of InsideMMA on AXS TV, Holm explained that she was expected to fight her teammate Sarah Kaufman, but was definitely excited about the change and title shot.

“I’m so excited about the announcement today,” Holm told InsideMMA. “It was definitely unexpected. I was supposed to fight Sarah Kaufman… which is my friend and teammate, so this is definitely a turn of events. It’s something totally new and I just want to make the most of it. I’m so excited and I love when a challenge is thrown at me… I really wanna jump in. It just makes it exciting. I feel like I’m feeling life and I’m just so happy.”

Holm (9-0) made her UFC debut in February and has gone 2-0 inside the Octagon. Her first outing was a split decision victory against Raquel Pennington, with her most recent outing a decision win over Marion Reneau.

UFC 195 goes down on January 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
