WSOF announces one-night, eight-man lightweight tournament

On Monday, World Series of Fighting executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz broke some news while speaking with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour.

Abdel-Aziz broke the news of a future WSOF one-night, eight-man tournament that will take place in Seattle on November 20. The tournament will crown a ‘tournament champion’ at the end of the night, and that champion will fight the winner of the upcoming lightweight title fight between Justin Gaethje and Luis Palomino.

The confirmed competitors include;

  • Mike Ricci (10-4) — TUF 16 Finalist, 2-0 in Titan FC
  • Rich Patishnock (6-2) — 2-1 in WSOF, challenged Gaethje for vacant title
  • Jorge ‘Macaco’ Patino (38-15-2, 1NC) — Former two-division Legacy champ, former Predator FC champ, former Max Sport champ
  • Brian Cobb (20-8)
  • Islam Mamedov (12-1) — 2-0 in WSOF

Abdel-Aziz also noted that the winner of LaRue Burley vs. Brian Foster at WSOF 23 will also likely join the tournament. The card will feature ‘super-fights’ such as Jason High vs. Caros Fodor, as well as a batch of tournament reserve bouts on the undercard.
