Aldo (25-2) has been unbeaten in over a decade and has been at the top of the 145-pound division for the last seven years. The talking of the Irish bad boy has been the most talked about thing leading up to this bout and he proved that he can not just talk the talk, but also walk the walk.
“I feel for Jose,” McGregor said in his post-fight speech with Joe Rogan. “He’s a phenomenal champion. He deserved to go a little bit longer. I still feel, at the end of the day, precision beats power, timing beats speed. All day it would have happened.”
The finish happened fast, but it wasn’t the power that dropped Aldo in McGregor’s eyes, it was the precision.
“He’s powerful and fast but precision beats power. Nobody can take that left-hand shot,” McGregor stated.
Aldo didn’t know what had happened following the fight, however one thing he did know, was that he wants a rematch because, “it wasn’t really a fight, he caught me with one punch.”
