Tyson Pedro submits Saparbek Safarov in back and forth first round

Australian Light Heavyweight Tyson Pedro picked up his third UFC win tonight, submitting Saparbek Safarov in the first round of their bout at UFC 221.

The fight started with a high pace, and Safarov looked good, scoring an early takedown. After getting back to his feet, Pedro looked loose, and started to enforce his game plan; before long, he had hurt the Russian and started to pick his opponent apart from the outside.

The beginning of the end was the moment Safarov attempted a takedown against the cage. Pedro countered, grabbing a kimura grip, and eventually forcing the 31-year-old to tap.

Pedro moves to 7-1 with the win, and rebounds from his first professional loss. Safarov has now lost two fights in a row, and still remains winless in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
