In his first fight post-UFC, Erik “Goyito” Perez is set to return home!
He makes his highly-anticipated Combate Americas debut against David “DJ” Fuentes, a man who submitted him in 2010.
Monterrey, Mexico’s Erik “Goyito” Perez (17-6) returns home following three-straight wins in the UFC. After exchanging wins and losses in 2013/2014, Perez bounced back in 2015/2016. Defeating Taylor Lapilus, Francisco Rivera, and Felipe Arantes before deciding to test free agency.
Since his last fight in November of 2016, Perez has found a new home in the form of Combate Americas. A promotion ran by Campbell McLaren, one of the original founders of the UFC in 1993.
Despite having a lackluster 8-10 record just a few years ago, David “DJ” Fuentes (13-10, 1NC) has managed to turn it around as of late. He has won five-straight, including a Hero FC title win in 2014, followed by three title defenses.
After taking well over two years off from mixed martial arts, Fuentes returned in December of 2017. Winning his Combate Americas debut by outworking Joel Scott for 15-minutes. Despite a third-round submission win over “Goyito” back in 2010, Perez has undoubtedly had more success in MMA – including a four year run in the UFC.
If “DJ” can get one more big win over “Goyito”, that would make it six-straight and could do big things for his career.
Combate Estrellas II will take place on April 20, live from Monterrey, Mexico.
The co-main event features another pivotal bantamweight match-up, as COPE COMBATE one-night, eight-man tournament winner; Levy Saul Marroquin returns against fast-rising star Alejandro Flores.
Opening up the three-fight main card will be a women’s strawweight bout between Melissa Martinez and Francis Hernandez. The preliminary portion of the card, as well as information on ticket sales, should be released in the very near future.
