Akiyama out of UFC 149, Alves will now face Bahadurzada

Bad news for fans of “Sexyama” as the UFC confirmed today that Yoshihiro Akiyama had to pull out of the upcoming UFC 149 in Calgary with an injury. Siyar Bahadurzada will step in for Akiyama against Thiago “Pitbull” Alves.

The former welterweight title challenger Alves is coming off a dramatic submission loss to Martin Kampmann at UFC on FX 2. Bahadurzad made waves in his UFC debut in knocking out Paulo Thiago in just 42 seconds at UFC on Fuel 2.

The nature of Akiyama’s injury has yet to be disclosed, more details as they become available.
