Albuquerque gets Lance Benoist vs. Bobby Voelker for June event

The UFC announced their inaugural show in Albuquerque this June, as well as the main event earlier today. They have now added a welterweight match-up with Lance Benoist vs. Bobby Voelker.

UFC officials announced the welterweight showdown on Tuesday.

Benoist (6-2) is coming off of two straight losses — Seth Baczynski at UFC on FX 3 in June 2012 via split decision and most recently a unanimous decision loss to Sean Pierson at UFC 152 in September of 2012. He didn’t fight at all in 2013 due to a broken leg and the UFC Fight Night event will be his first time back in the cage since that loss in September 2012.

Voelker (24-11) is also on a losing-streak, however his is three straight fights. He came over to the UFC after the organization took over the Strikeforce contracts and hasn’t been able to find his first win. Most recently, “Vicious” lost an exciting unanimous decision against William Macario at UFC 168.

It has not been announced where the Benoist vs. Voelker fight will take place on the June card, however it will likely be on the preliminary portion.

The event which is expected to be UFC Fight Night 42 will go down on June 7 at Tingley Coliseum.
