Alexi Argyriou Retires From MMA

24-years-old may seem like the pinnacle time of a sporting career, but for lightweight Alexi Argyriou, he’s calling it quits.

The Zuma Martial Arts fighter took to his official Facebook page on Wednesday evening and let his fans know he was retiring from the sport of MMA.

“After 10 fights and a long lay off due to injury I have decided to retire from the sport of MMA,” Argyriou stated. “I feel very lucky to have fought as it taught me the definition of hard work and sacrifice. I was also lucky to have such a great team Zuma Martial Arts with coaches Adam ZugecSarah Kaufman who care about you as a fighter and a person, inevitably leading me to a record of 9-0-1. Thank you to everyone for all your support along the way. To the next chapter.”

Alexi Argyriou is hanging up the gloves

Argyriou (5-0, 1NC) is leaving the sport with an undefeated record and arguably some of the rawest talents to set foot inside a cage.

The Vancouver Island native went pro in 2014 after a very impressive amateur career. The man known as “Sexy” fought for both Battlefield Fight League and Hard Knocks. Of his five victories, Argyriou was able to stop his opponents within the distance four times. Unfortunately, it wasn’t his time in the cage that has forced him to retire, but instead injuries that have happened outside.

The last time Arguyriou stepped inside the cage was in March of last year when he came away with a no-contest against Hamilton Ash at Hard Knocks 54.

A fan favorite by all means of the word, Argyriou will be missed inside the cage, but I’m sure his presence will still be felt inside the Zuma Martial Arts gym.
