Anderson Silva’s camp wants Luke Rockhold next

On FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight” they reported that Anderson Silva’s management team would like to see the middleweight champion defend his title against the Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold. If that’s the case, then that may harp on the likes of Chris Weidman, Hector Lombard, Tim Boetsch and Michael Bisping to name a few.

Below is the breakdown of the situation,

“One of Anderson Silva’s managers said that one of the issues with Hector Lombard is he thinks he needs at least three more impressive wins in the UFC. He said that 85 percent of UFC fans don’t even know who Hector Lombard is, who is of course making his Octagon debut on Saturday night.”

Silva’s management team seem to think they can call the shots following his recent TKO victory over Chael Sonnen at UFC 148.

“As for Chris Weidman, he said, ‘Well, there’s another great unknown fighter.’ He doesn’t see those match ups as being money making pay-per-view events.”

Weidman was the latest UFC fighter to call out Anderson Silva. He staked his claim for a title shot following his absolute destruction of Mark Munoz at UFC on FUEL TV.

“He did mention Luke Rockhold, who is the Strikeforce middleweight champion. Alas, Rockhold is contractually tied to Strikeforce, so that fight’s not happening. We’ll have to wait and see, but right now, the Anderson Silva camp not too excited about the options out there.”

So the champ wants to fight Rockhold. It does not seem like that fight will happen in the near future, so you may want to keep your eyes peeled to UFC 149 where Hector Lombard makes his UFC debut. If he does get a win there is a possibility that could be the next title contender.
