There were rumors swirling this past weekend that former UFC fighter Anthony “Rumble” Johnson was going to re-sign with the organization, as he was in the building during UFC 169. Those rumors ended up being true, as Johnson will make his Octagon return against Phil Davis at UFC 172.

UFC President Dana White announced the fight via his official Twitter account on Tuesday.

Johnson (16-4) was released from the UFC after losing to Vitor Belfort in 2012 and having numerous weight issues. After his departure, Johnson has garnered a six-fight winning streak with three different promotions and three different weight classes. Most recently, “Rumble” knocked out Mike Kyle in the very first round at World Series of Fighting 8.

Davis (12-1 1NC) is currently riding a three-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory being a unanimous decision over former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 163. “Mr. Wonderful” hasn’t seen Octagon action since August 2013 and when he faces off with Johnson it will have been eight months since his last UFC appearance.

There is no word as to where this fight will take place on the UFC 172 broadcast, but it will likely be on the PPV portion.

UFC 172 will go down on April 26 from Maryland’s Baltimore Arena. The main event is a light heavyweight championship bout between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira.
