Anthony Pettis misses weight for UFC 206 bout against Max Holloway

The interim UFC featherweight title is up for grabs, but not for both of the combatants in the UFC 206 main event. Former UFC lightweight title holder Anthony Pettis missed weight for his match-up against Max Holloway.

This is the second time Pettis has appeared at 145-pounds and unfortunately wasn’t able to hit the weight limit, instead came in over at 148-pounds. Holloway commented on the three pound weight differential on his official Twitter page.

UFC President Dana White told TSN‘s SportsCenter on Friday, “I’m not happy, but listen, it happens,”White stated. “Believe me when I tell you, Anthony Pettis wanted to make weight. He’s been working for months for this day. He came in, when he landed here in Toronto, he was 10 pounds (over), so he should’ve made the weight. What that tells you is he’s too old and he’s too big to make that weight, is my opinion. So we’ll see where we go from here.”

According to White the fight will still take place, however there are some stipulations. Holloway will receive 20 percent of Pettis’ purse and the Hawaiian will be the only one eligible for the 145-pound interim championship.

If Pettis were to win the bout, as mentioned, the interim title will not be wrapped around his waist, and White is not completely certain about his future in the division either.

“If Pettis wins, I’ve got to decide if I want him to fight for the 145-pound (title),” White said. “I don’t know if he can make the weight.”
