Known to many as the pioneer of Pakistani MMA, Bashir Ahmad (2-0) recently made a triumphant promotional debut at ONE FC 8: Kings & Champions – scoring a Unanimous Decision victory over Thai prospect, Shannon Wiratchai.
The Singaporean audience gave a standing ovation to both fighters after the bout, and appreciated the efforts of both fighters.
But it wasn’t all Jekyll and no Hyde for Bashir Ahmad. The Pakistani native suffered a bad cut in the opening minutes, and may have succumbed the 1st stanza to his Thai opponent despite finishing the round on a high.
As the fight progressed, however, Ahmad took Wiratchai down to the canvas and dominated proceedings. Even on their feet, the 30-year-old looked the more active striker and capped off a wonderful come-from-behind display.
MMASucka.com had the pleasure of catching up with Bashir after the fight, and the Pakistani felt he would have worked his ground game a little more, if it weren’t for the cut:
“When I was on top in half-guard, I felt that I had a better ground game than this guy, ” Bashir said. “The cut kinda made me a little more hesitant on the ground. I mean I would have liked to play on the bottom a bit more but he kept opening the cut up – you know, he was trying to win.”
